What are product solutions for improved vision?
Most people think of eyeglasses or contact lenses when it comes to improving vision. When these conventional aids can no longer help, then it is time to consider special optical aids. Our range of products focuses on visual aids beyond eyeglasses/contact lenses and includes high-quality magnifiers (with and without illumination), special lamps and telescopes as well as high-addition and light protection spectacles.
Who needs these product solutions for improved vision?
Most of our product solutions are specifically designed for people with low vision but many of them are also very useful for people without any visual impairment to help them read fine print or see small objects more clearly when sewing or doing handicrafts, putting puzzles together or making models.
What is low vision?
Low vision is a visual impairment that cannot be corrected by eyeglasses, contact lenses, medication or surgery and that interferes with the ability to perform everyday activities. For instance reading, writing, shopping, cooking or watching TV can be very challenging.
What causes low vision?
Besides common refractive errors that can often be corrected by eyeglasses or contact lenses, low vision can result from eye diseases and health conditions such as macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma or diabetes. Some people develop low vision after eye injuries or from birth defects.
Can low vision be cured?
Unfortunately, there are still numerous causes of low vision where it is impossible to restore vision by medication or surgery, corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Nothing more can be done?
A lot can be done – even if the loss of vision is permanent. A wide variety of low vision devices helps people cope with low vision, enabling them to perform everyday activities independently and thus significantly improve their quality of life.
Isn't low vision just a marginal phenomenon?
According to the WHO, 285 million people are estimated to be visually impaired worldwide: 39 million are blind and 246 million have low vision. In many cases, our range of product solutions for improved vision can help people with low vision regain a better quality of life.
Where can I find the ideal low vision product solution?
The best resources are eye care professionals specialised in low vision. They can identify product solutions tailored to the needs of the individual person and relevant eye condition. In many cases, more than one device will be required to perform different tasks.
What about cheap visual aids from the supermarket?
Buying a low vision magnifier in any kind of store is a trial and error approach since the device will hardly help. More likely, it will create great disappointment and is definitely not the best possible way of making life easier for a person with low vision.
